Our Princess cruise honeymoon

Our honeymoon: ten nights on the Island Princess out of New York to Grand Turk, San Juan and Bermuda. Loved the trip, not the ship.

What we loved

  • Being newlyweds. Best part of the whole trip was each other.
  • Puerto Rico was our favorite port.
  • The top package covered all drinks, unlimited wifi and the specialty restaurants.
  • We're not big drinkers, but the drinks package was still worth it. It took the stress out of ordering.

What we didn't

  • The app didn't work right and ordering through it was terrible.
  • Room service took forever, when it showed up at all.
  • Ordering a drink by the pool took so long you'd already moved somewhere else by the time it came.
  • Even with the highest package they sell, you can't take a can of soda back to your room. They pour it in a cup.
  • The Island Princess was a letdown next to the Sky Princess, which Nagham sailed the year before.

Would we go back?

Princess, yes. The Island Princess, no. Next time we'd pick a newer ship like the Sky Princess.

What it cost

Our cruise: $5,600 for both of us

Ten nights in a Balcony Mini-Suite with the top package: all drinks, unlimited wifi and the specialty restaurants.

Tips

  • Check which ship you're on. Same cruise line, very different trip.
  • Don't count on the app for room service or drinks around the ship.
  • Even if you don't drink much, the drinks package saves you thinking about every order.
  • Want a soda in the room? Even with the package it comes in a cup, not a can.
